Passenger Killed in Fatal Crash on I-5 in Bakersfield

On Monday, a man lost his life in a fatal solo-vehicle collision that took place on a highway in Bakersfield. According to KGET, the accident happened around 6:30 p.m. in the northbound lanes of I-5 just north of Frazier Mountain Park Road on the evening of June 3, 2024.

When California Highway Patrol officials showed up at the scene, they discovered that a driver was traveling northbound on I-5 at a high rate of speed. The driver suddenly lost control of the vehicle and it began swerving from side to side, overturning. The vehicle then burst into flames.

Paramedics and fire department crews were immediately called to the scene to help those in need. The 31-year-old male driver, as well as the 30-year-old male passenger of the truck both sustained major injuries. They were airlifted to the hospital but the passenger tragically passed away at the hospital.

The number one and two northbound lanes of traffic were blocked for some time until the scene was cleared by police.

No further details have been released regarding the circumstances of the accident. The investigation into the collision remains ongoing.
